Panasonic's new Toughpad FZ-G1 tablet provides excellent performance with longer battery life and more computing power. In most cases, a sturdy tablet is not mistaken for a traditional everyday tablet.
Design
The Panasonic toughpad fz
g1 is bulkier than traditional tablets, but it's hard to
find a lightweight and sturdy tablet. The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 weighs only
2.2 pounds, less than half the weight of the durable 5.8 lbsXplore
iX104C5DMSR-M2 tablet. The toughpad weighs only 0.8 pounds.
Panasonic
advertises the Toughpad FZ-G1 as the world's thinnest 10-inch rugged Windows 8
tablet.
Despite
its thinness, the FZ-G1 can be hit. The silver-magnesium alloy chassis comes
with an elastomeric coating and corner bumpers to protect it from heavy drops.
The ports are covered to keep dust and other irritants out of the device.
At
the bottom of the screen are some physical buttons. Two of these buttons,
labeled A1 and A2, can be customized to perform specific devices' specific
functions. In addition to these programmable buttons, there is a volume control
key, a Windows button to switch between the Windows 8 tile interface and the
desktop, and a power button on the far right.
The
ML-STD-810G approved tablet can withstand temperatures from -20 to 140 degrees
Celsius, explosive atmospheres, various rain conditions, and other situations
that break standard tablets apart.
The Panasonic toughpad fz
g1 is a completely sturdy tablet. In other words, it is
also IP-65 certified. Ingress Protection Ratings (IP) indicates the amount of
environmental stress a device can withstand. The IP-65 rating of the Toughpad
means that it cannot be submerged in water but is protected from dust and
low-pressure water jets in all directions.
Safety features
The Panasonic toughpad fz
g1 comes with an integrated, trusted platform module (TPM)
chip that stores an encryption key that can protect your information. In
addition, you can use the BIOS setup utility to enable or disable Computrace
anti-theft software. You can also use the included Intel Anti-Theft Technology
to find a lost or stolen toughpad remotely. However, other rugged devices such
as the Xplore iX104C5 have a built-in fingerprint scanner for biometrics.
Display
The
Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1's 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution WUXGA capacity
screen displays text and images. Looking at the trailer for Kick-Ass 2, the
sturdy tablet's LED-backlit capacity screen delivers bold, vibrant colors. The
dark purple shades of the Hitgirl wig were lively, and the action-packed,
explosive scene exploded.
Keyboard and stylus
The Panasonic toughpad fz g1 screen features a glare-resistant coating and a digitizer for accurate pen support. When I moved up about 0.5 inches from the screen, a small round pointer appeared on the screen. The pen was very responsive when selecting text and browsing web pages.
